Cost Efficient Ways to Stay Warm
Finding the right temperature to keep your house warm without breaking your wallet sounds almost impossible. However, we’ve compiled a list of energy-saving ideas, as well as an ideal temperature, that keeps you warm while saving a buck.
The Ideal Temperature
According to ENERGY STAR, 68°F is the magic number to set your thermostat during Winter for maximum comfort and efficiency. This may sound cold considering it’s Winter but you only have to set it to this temperature when you’re not at home or at night.
Forgetting to set your thermostat to the right temperature or constantly fluctuating the temperature throughout the day can raise your energy bill. However, if you set the thermostat back to 7-10°F for eight hours a day, you can save as much as 10%.
Thermostat Placement
Knowing the magic number for your thermostat is basically useless if you don’t have the proper placement for it. Keep in mind which rooms you often use and which areas you are most comfortable to place your thermostat.
Areas to avoid:
1.) Kitchens
2.) Hallways
3.) Close to doors or windows
4.) Areas in direct sunlight
5.) Areas above air vents
Energy Saving HVAC Units
HVAC units have progressed to include a setting for energy efficiency. We recommend you call our trained technicians and HVAC professionals for quotes and information on the best unit to help lower your energy bill.
Although heating and ac units have the features to help lower your bill, it’s advised to pair it with a thermostat that can also achieve energy savings. There are programmable thermostats that allow you to set a variety of temperatures throughout the week. However as mentioned before, if you constantly change the temperature you will end up spending more. Smart thermostats are ideal because they do more than just provide comfort, they adjust and learn the patterns of your settings.
Tips to Lower Your Heating Bill
1.) Open your blinds and curtains to let direct sunlight warm up your living space.
2.) Seal your doors and windows to avoid letting the cold in and the heat out.
3.) Make sure your living space is well insulated. However, please remember that foam insulation settles after a year and older homes should be checked out and replaced.
4.) Create climate zones where you want warm air to be directed.
5.) Set your ceiling fans counter-clockwise to circulate the warm air that rises to the top of the room.
